Six SDSS self-advocates recently completed a five-week Assertiveness Training Course. Sessions were very interactive with lots of practice and role playing. We also had a lot of laughs!
It is important to know how to be assertive. Why? Because being assertive is a way of speaking up for yourself. When you are assertive you know how to say what you want without hurting anyone’s feelings and without giving in.
As you learn how to be more assertive, you are more confident. You know how to stick up for choices you have made. These are important skills for everyone.
