NDSAW - WHAT A WEEK!!
Thank You to everyone who celebrated National Down Syndrome Awareness week with us!  For checking out our blog posts, commenting and sharing!   We wrapped up this week in the best possible way - hosting our first Superhero For A Day fundraiser in Regina.  What an amazing day!! I am now just beginning to process all the great things that happened that afternoon.  If you were one of the lucky ones who were able to attend - you will know exactly what I am talking about.  The energy in The Owl was indescribable.  There were Superheroes and performers and excited, smiling kids every time you turned around.   An event of this size took an army to put together.  I’d like to take a minute here to acknowledge those who really stepped up and made Saturday possible.   To the entire SDSS Board of Directors - when I pitched this idea to you over a year ago, you all jumped in with both feet.  Your support and input over the last months have been priceless. To Lesley - you joined us late in the game and quickly became my right hand in planning.  There is no way half of the amazing experiences these kids had would have ever come to be without your help, time, heart and creativity.   To Thomas and Rayann (& Ellen) - You took the time to offer your thoughts and put them down into words.  We love having you step out and speak for your organization.   To Nick & Elizabeth - You gave us your evenings and offered so many creative ideas, lending us your imagination.  For all the help before and during the event, Thank You. To every single volunteer who came out the day of - Sarah, Tyson, Thomas, Kayla, Simon, Daniella, Tanner, Rayann, Pam, Tyler (& Zoey), Liz, Cheri, Milena, Alexis, Darriane, Ally, Shelley, Megan, Daniel, Morgan, Team Trench, Team Cabelas,  and Team Fidelty/Adrenaline.  Your hard work is so appreciated. To our families - you gave up your mom’s and wives for the better part of the last 6 weeks so we could focus our evenings and spare time on all the details.  To Grandmas and Grandpas for helping babysit, load trailers and do the heavy lifting - Thank You for being the Superheroes in our lives.    To every singe guest - you bought tickets, sponsored the VIP tables,  bought silent auction items and raffle tickets.  You came out and opened up your hearts to our organization.  Thank you for having a blast with us!!! Lastly, (and certainly not least) I have to speak to the amazing group of Superheroes and performers who came out.   Cirque Nova Circus - this incredible troupe brought their awe-inspiriting entertainment for us and adapted their whole performance to our theme.  They truly made this event one-of-a-kind. Justice League Saskatoon and Regina Costume League - you all went above and beyond any expectation I could have dreamt up.  Any time I came to you with a question or request, it was met with an “absolutely” or “of course.”  You made this day about the kids and made so many memories for every single guest in attendance.  I am forever indebted to you for helping make this vision come to life - and even more blessed to now call many of you my friends! This event was based on the premise that everyone has a Superhero who lives within them, and we truly got to see it manifested in everyone involved.  It was more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. Pictures have been posted under the Photos tab here on our website.  If you have others that you’d like to share, please email them to us and we’d be happy to add them to the album! For anyone who had pictures taken at PeterParker’s Photobooth, your images are available at Pleasantview Photography - Regina on Facebook.   Thank you and we look forward to an even bigger, more exciting Superhero For A Day next year!!  If you are at all interested in volunteering your time to our team - please email and we will keep you in the loop as we get geared up to start plans for the next one!! -Miranda
