New Parent Baskets

New Parent Baskets
You’ve just given birth to your beautiful baby and it’s supposed to be one of the most joyful times of your life. Instead your doctor has delivered some news that may send your emotions on a wild roller coaster ride. However, there is a wonderful group of parents – parents who have gone through the same thing – that is there to welcome you and your new baby. The SDSS New Parent Committee is committed to ensuring every new parent of a baby with Down syndrome in Saskatchewan is congratulated, welcomed, informed and connected. Hospitals in the province with a labour and delivery unit have information about the SDSS and NCP. New parents are hand-delivered a bountiful gift basket containing information about Down syndrome, the organization and the CDSS along with an array of baby items such as a blanket, soother and homemade bonnet and booties. The delivery also gives the new parents an opportunity to speak to other parents who have children with DS. In addition to their outreach services, the committee plans gatherings every couple of months to stay connected, cultivating and growing friendships. These outings include events such as picnics, parents-only nights and the SDSS Christmas party. If you know of someone who has recently given birth to or is expecting a baby with DS please contact our new parent committee at  .
